Can You Identify this Animal Skeleton?

I love being a librarian.  I especially enjoy a difficult reference question.  Case in point:  my students discovered an animal skeleton yesterday while on a nature walk here in Florida.  It was found by a small pond.  Here’s the pictures:

I think it was a nutria, but others think it was a raccon, a large rat, a rabbit, or a cat.  I’ve submitted the pictures to our local wildlife experts, so I’ll update when I get an answer.

UPDATE:  The Florida Fish and Wildlife biologist I contacted identified it as a raccoon, but wants me to ship the skull in for positive id.  They’ll clean it for us and return it, free of charge.
